There are only so many reasons to start doing your own products at home. Not only making green and healthy food or starting DIY projects to eliminate consumerism streaks, but also doing something for the body and healthcare. DIY is important nowadays because people simply buy so many things and then throw away too much of that. We at RubbishMan Ltd. constantly warn that people have started to throw away their body weight in waste, so let’s figure a way to reduce that. Here are two simple homemade and eco-friendly recipes you can try out and see just how easy it is to do your own hair and skincare products without spending a penny more than you need to and without accumulating any kind of waste to burden yourself or the environment with.

Before you start anything, always remember that safety comes first! Use long sleeves and gloves, and maybe some eye protection.

HOME-MADE SOAP BARS

Ingredients:HOME-MADE SOAP BARS

  • 8 ounces of olive oil
  • 4 ounces of palm oil
  • 8 ounces of coconut oil
  • 4 ounces of almond oil
  • .5 ounces of citric acid (lemon or orange juice)
  • 5 ounces of sodium hydroxide
  • 15 ounces of distilled water
  • .3 ounces of panthenol
  • 4 ounces of castor oil
  • 10 ounces of orange essential oil
  • 4 ounces of tea tree essential oil
  • 8 or 12 bar square mold

You need to start with preparing the essential oil first. Mix the orange essential oil and tea tree essential oil in a cup and set it aside, you will come back to it later. Then pour some of the distilled water in a bowl, along with the citric acid and the panthenol, and again set it aside – this will be used later.

Add the sodium hydroxide to the rest of the distilled water and stir until the former is completely dissolved. Be careful with this! You could get burned by the mixture, so remember about that glove warning! Now mix all the oils in a container. Once everything is cooled down to about the same degree, mix the oil concoction and lye water, and further mix them with a blender until you get a thick homogeneous liquid.

Now carefully add the citric acid and panthenol mixture and stir quickly. Once another homogeneous mixture is achieved, add the essential oils and continue stirring. The mixture should now be somewhat thick. If so, pour it inside the mold. Cover the mold and put it somewhere outside of children’s reach. Now leave it alone for around 15 weeks and you will have your very own soap! You can now easily scrub off all dirt from yourself while doing house cleaning, or all the grease stains left after oven cleaning.

HOME-MADE SHAMPOO

Ingredients:HOME-MADE SHAMPOO

  • Half a cup of liquid castile soap
  • Quarter cup of canned coconut milk
  • Quarter cup of honey
  • Essential oil by choice
  • A tablespoon of coconut oil
  • A tablespoon of vitamin E oil

The directions are simple enough – find a big enough container, pour in all the ingredients except for the essential oil, and stir, stir, stir (you may also put a lid on and shake, shake, shake).

Once you have a homogeneous mixture, it’s time to add some oils. You may simply add oils for fragrance, in which case you should choose at will whatever fits your taste – after all, it is your shampoo, you will be using it, so might as well have it smell good for you.

If you want a specific function, you need to enter the web and research further mixing options. There are plenty of those. For instance, if you have hair loss, mix some drops of lavender, cedarwood, peppermint, and rosemary oil, and at the very least you will not have to worry about looking for hairs when carpet cleaning.

As you can see, you are not limited to store products. Invest some time and effort in making your own useful products which will serve you just as well as the marketable ones. It takes some time to make the soap, but it is all worth it in the end – not only do you have some healthy biodegradable goods, but you also save yourself the price of all the soaps you would have needed in the next few weeks or months.
